Our Company

Trans Americas Fiber System (TAFS) is a next-generation infrastructure company redefining connectivity across the Americas.

We’re building TAM-1, an open-access subsea and terrestrial fiber optic network that brings world-class technology and regional impact together. Our approach goes beyond infrastructure — we connect regions with purpose, ensuring that connectivity becomes a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and inclusion.

TAFS Timeline

Building the Digital Backbone of Central America

2022
Foundation & System Planning

LW Subsea Holdings is established, setting the vision to develop a neutral, resilient subsea connectivity platform for Central America. Desktop studies and initial system design define TAM-1’s technical architecture, routing options, and long-term capacity strategy. The first anchor tenant is secured, validating early market demand.

2023
TAFS Formation & Contracting

Trans Americas Fiber System (TAFS) is formally founded as the project company behind TAM-1. Final system design is completed, and the main supply contract with XTERA is executed. This milestone marks the transition from planning into active system development and execution.

2023
Southern Route Marine Survey

A comprehensive marine survey of the Southern Route is completed by EGS, confirming seabed conditions, route feasibility, and long-term system resilience. The results support final route validation and engineering decisions.

2024
Northern Route Marine Survey

The Northern Route marine survey is successfully completed by FUGRO, finalizing the full subsea route definition and landing point alignment across the TAM-1 system.

2024
Manufacturing, Integration & Assembly

System manufacturing and integration are carried out by XTERA and NEXANS, including subsea cable production, repeaters, and branching units. The system is fully assembled and loaded, completing all pre-installation readiness activities.

2025
Marine Installation

Subsea cable installation is executed by IT Telecom, deploying TAM-1 along its defined route and connecting landing stations. This phase represents the physical completion of the system across the region.

2026
Ready for Services

TAM-1 reaches Ready for Service (RFS) following final testing, network integration, and system validation. TAFS begins commercial operations, delivering secure, scalable, and future-ready connectivity solutions to Costa Rica and Central America.

2022
Foundation

2024
Foundation of TAFS

2024
Contract in Force
